MINISTRIES
The Social Ministry Team organizes numerous events to assist the community and world at large including bingo and other events at an assisted care facility, providing dinners and other support for the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, maintaining a food pantry (Pastor’s Pantry), and collecting eyeglasses for “Glasses for the Masses”. This team also collects and distributes clothing to a number of local charities (Dress for Success), provides Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and Christmas gifts to those in need, as well as tutoring, supporting Habitat for Humanity and numerous other organizations. Other projects undertaken by the Social Ministry Team include the “Pennies for Prescriptions” program, supporting the Lighthouse Shelter and the Samaritan House with blankets, toiletries, personal items, laundry supplies and holiday items, collecting winter coats, filling backpacks with school supplies, the Angel Tree program, and support for national and worldwide social ministry organizations. The team also picks up surplus food several days a week and delivers it to homeless shelters and outreach organizations. Other monthly programs are run based on community needs. Evangelism and Outreach Ministry Team The Evangelism/Outreach Ministry Team oversees the overall congregation outreach to new members, welcoming guests, visitors and others and inviting all to “Come and See” God’s love in action at St. Michael. The team sponsors the Bread Ministry program to deliver bread to local visitors and those seeking a new church home. This team also works to connect new members to become active in the life of the St. Michael congregation and its various ministries. The team provides biographies and pictures of new members as well as programs to enrich the spiritual life of those new to St. Michael.
Congregation Support Ministry Team The Congregation Support Ministry Team supports congregation members in times of need or crisis. The team provides food and meals for congregation members in cases of illness, birth of a baby, death in the family etc. The team hosts receptions following funeral services at the church. The team supports families of deployed service personnel and provides various other programs to assist congregation members whose needs cannot be met elsewhere. The team sends cards to mark special occasions and to homebound members.
The Stewardship Ministry Team guides and educates the congregation in utilizing individual resources to grow in faith and support the mission and ministry of the church. The team conducts an annual “Time and Talent” Sunday where individual gifts of time and talent are The team provides various educational opportunities throughout the year so congregation members can identify and gift their time, talents and financial resources to the glory of God.
The prayer ministry team prays for the needs of the congregation, its members, friends, the world and all those in need of special prayers and is open to all. The team responds to various requests initiated by the Pastors as well as others seeking prayerful support.
Mom In Touch International (MITI) is an international prayer ministry that meets each Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the school year to focus on prayer for one school in the immediate vicinity.
The Fellowship Ministry Team is responsible for fellowship events in the life of the St. Michael congregation including Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, Lenten Wednesday suppers, the annual church Rally Day picnic, special coffee hours and other fellowship events throughout the year. The Team normally meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all.
The Parish Nurse program is designed to provide whole person health promotion/disease prevention services with an emphasis on spiritual care, serving the faith community through individual requests for services or through referrals.
The Senior Ministry – A Gathering of Eagles is open to senior’s age 60 or better. The Eagles meet monthly on the third Thursday of each month for lunch, fellowship, service, mentoring, outreach and various other social programs. Special off site events are held frequently based on the desires of the group.
The Sewing Ministry Team is open to women and girls of all ages; no sewing experience is required. The daytime team meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the Community Room. The evening group meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Community room. All women and girls are welcome and encouraged to help with quilts, church paramounts and banners and projects for various social ministry organizations throughout the community.
The Men’s Breakfast is open to men and boys of all ages and meets the second Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. for a potluck breakfast, devotions and work group service project around the church. A men’s Bible Study is offered Thursday mornings from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at an offsite café.
The Sports Ministry sponsors a several co-ed and men’s softball teams, golf outings, bowling and other sporting events throughout the year.
The Finance Ministry team oversees all financial aspects of the church from counting offerings to preparing the annual spending guide for approval by the congregation council and congregation.
The Information Technology Team maintains the church website, supports office systems and oversees the audio/visual and other technological requirements of the congregation.
The Property Ministry Team oversees all the property of the church including lawn care, facility cleaning, maintenance, renovations and repairs and works with the Director of Church Operations and Sexton to care for the physical plant and property of the congregation. |
